Cristina, a 35-year-old secretary living in an alienating and hostile Bucharest, tries to understand what it means to be the functional adult that society demands, while striving to be a good child to the mother who raised her alone. Cristina is also the main character in a novel that a director is turning into a film. The actors begin to settle into Cristina's story, but their own lives and the social circumstances that shape them begin to overlap with the fiction they have been given, which they gradually appropriate, questioning and altering it.
